The Strategist has two great posts--the first on the ramifications of AFRICOM, and the second on the "fortress" embassy being constructed in Baghdad.
Even after withdrawal, that embassy could become a catalyst for renewed American involvement. Once you've constructed such a potent symbol of American power, any threats to it will surely provoke a massive response.

Larger issue here, though, is that as I said earlier, even after withdrawal this will serve as a magnet for trouble and invite more American involvement.
